Form Letter Year in Review
December 7, 2008 @ 2:51 pm categories : Featured, Personal, Random MusingsI’ll do a real Year In Review for myself in a few weeks. But, this was one of those quiz memes I thought I’d fill out for kicks. So, here we go.
Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I really don’t remember what my New Year’s resolutions were, if any. Next year, I’m really not sure if I will or not.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
I gave birth to a few website redesigns. But, no, this was a baby-free year for me and everyone I know.
Did anyone close to you die?
Yeah. My mother passed away in September.
What countries did you visit?
None. Again.
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
More comedy gigs. More acting work. A job I’m excited about. More money.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I’ve still got the rest of December to figure that out, but right now I’ll place it as doing a solid 30-minute stand-up comedy set with no rehearsal time.
What was your biggest failure?
I’m always going to feel like I failed to connect more w/my mother, make her more a part of my life, and/or to just spend more time with her.
What was the best thing you bought?
Vodka. 2008 was sponsored in great part by cheap vodka.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
I’m not going to single anyone out here. The people who have been important in my life, this year and those past, know who they are and why.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Again, I’m not going to single any one out. If you did me wrong, you can safely assume that’s why I haven’t bothered to keep in contact with you.
Where did most of your money go?
Cigarettes. Vodka. Food. Rent. The usual.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My family reunion earlier this year.
What song will always remind you of 2008?
“In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. It kept me grounded and filled me with hope in a way I can’t remember having in quite some time. Also, probably the only song I can hear and want to laugh and cry at the same time, every time.
Compared to this time last year, are you Happier or Sadder?
Hard to say. My comedy career has never been more lucrative and exciting. The loss of my mother for a life-guide definitely put a damper in my mood. Struggling to pay the bills for the first time in 5 years was also a bit rough.
Thinner or fatter?
Little thinner, actually. More muscular in some areas.
Richer or Poorer?
Poorer. Way poorer.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Comedy. Talking to my mom. Fucking.
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Arguing. Dwelling. Overthinking.
How will you be spending Christmas?
With a hopeful smile on my face.
Did you fall in love in 2008?
Several times. Not always in a literal sense, not always with people.
How many one-night stands?
Enough.
What was your favorite TV program?
Californication. Dexter. Frisky Dingo. Metalocalypse.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Well, I didn’t know who Sarah Palin was last year. But.. that’s mostly a joke. i don’t really give a shit long enough to hate enough anymore. I just avoid them.
What was the best book you read?
I meant to read a lot of books, but I failed to actually read a single new one.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Neutral Milk Hotel is the only one that comes to mind right now.
What did you want and get?
Misi. More comedy gigs.
What did you want and not get?
A role in a film that would actually see a theatre.
What were your favorite films of this year?
The Dark Knight and Wall-E.
What did you do on your birthday?
I rebuilt my website.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
“What’s the least amount of work I can put into getting dressed for where I’m going, without looking like a total slob?”
What kept you sane?
Friends, family, Bouschka, perseverance.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Barack Obama. Unless you mean sexually fancy. In which case.. no one specific comes to mind.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Arkansas removing gay couples’ rights to foster and/or adopt children, under the guise that “only married couples should be allowed to do that”, thereby ruining the lives of 100s if not 1000s of families and children who will grow up wondering why their state’s government is so afraid of individual freedom that they’ve deemed it more appropriate to remove their parents from the equation. Prop 8 was serious bullshit, but it’s bothered me that no one’s shining a bigger spotlight on Arkansas.
Oh, and yeah.. I shed some tears of Joy watching Obama’s acceptance speech on Nov 4th.
Who did you miss?
Mom.
Who was the best new person you met?
T.K. – I’m sure he’ll never read this, but he restored my faith in the LA comedy scene and gave me the reason and the drive to get back out there in a big way.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Life is fleeting. Focus on what matters right now, and shake off all the little distractions that try to keep you from going forth with everything you’ve got. Happiness comes in small doses, so cherish the moments that make you smile.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I’m keeping here with me, me
