Song of the Week #3
Okay so last week’s song wasn’t really listed as a song of the week - but I made 2 separate posts where the song was mentioned and linked to, so that’ll work.
This week, we’ve got a song from one of my favorite bands - Tiamat. They’re an interesting band, in that they were once a hardcore black metal act then suddenly Johan Edlünd (lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter) "went through some shit" and threw out just about everyone in the band to mellow out their sound. The first album I bought of theirs, 1997’s "A Deeper Kind of Slumber" I’d heard about simply by walking through a bookstore and on the front cover of some underground "metal" magazine, I saw an image from this photoshoot and I read an article about their big change-over.
My friend at the time (Trevor) and I were the main songwriters/composers for my former band Terratism. We picked up the ADKoS album, dropped some acid, and fell in love with Tiamat practically overnight. Since then, I’ve purchased every CD they’ve released and I’ve yet to feel let down. They’re simply amazing. It’d be nice if they ever toured the U.S. - I’ve been waiting to see them for some 7+ years now and I doubt if it’s ever gonna happen.
Anyway.. the song this week is a gem from their gem of an album A Deeper Kind of Slumber. The song itself is "Atlantis As A Lover" and the lyrics can be found here
