Reprising the Devil Role

Last time I went to the DragonFly (a club here in Hollywood), some british girl came up to me and asked where my horns were. Apparently, the last time she saw me there was my b-day, which if you’ll recall was on the Friday before Halloween. Hence… the devil horns.

She told me that she was a photographer, and showed me her portfolio. It was very impressive, made moreso by the fact that she was also the set designer and makeup artist for all the shoots. She had an obsessions with mermaids and mermen. This was evident in her photos, which were all basically glam’d out mermaids and mermen. Gorgeous photos. The people in them had a look that was pure fantasy, like I was looking at production stills for some upcoming multi-million dollar movie about mermaids.

She said she was going to do a showing of her work in the next few months, and she was to have most of the mermaids and mermen come out, dressed as mermaids/mermen and dance while she displayed her photos on a projection-screen slideshow.

Where did I fit into all of this?

She wanted me to be a devilish merman. I guess she wanted me to dance, as well. I’d much rather stand there, but as I’m an attention-whore, I’m not about to pass that up. I gave her my number and I still haven’t heard from her. Maybe she changed her mind.

A friend of Michelle’s (the photographer friend of mine), who goes by the name "Bella Vendetta" online (and I’m in the middle of re-designing her website), asked Michelle to take some photos of people she knew for the website. Michelle showed her some pics of me, and she asked Michelle to "dress him up as the devil, get him naked and take some photos".

My nickname by fuckheaded bullies in school (pretty much from 1st grade until I graduated) was "Satan". One jock that used to ridicule me saw me reading The Satanic Bible in the back of a class (I didn’t do it for attention, I was really trying to keep it hidden if you can believe it) and stopped making fun of me for some reason. I thought it was odd, but even when I tried pressing him, he would continue to be really nice. He even tried to convince his dumb jock friends to do the same (which of course, they didn’t). Once we graduated, he pulled me aside and confided in me that he was afraid of my "demonic powers". God I love Xians sometimes.

I embrace my "devil role", having dressed up as a deal-making devil (you may remember my soul collections on halloween) for the past 4 years or so and having gotten the numbers 666 tattooed on my head, you might say I have a bit of a devil obsession. Fine by me. I’m not a "devil worshipper", and I’m not any longer registering myself as a Satanist (LaVeyan, at that, which I was up to about 1999).

Before my girlfriend became my girlfriend - she showed quite a devil obsession herself. From the tattoo of the devil on her arm, to giving herself the handle of "Devil’s Concubine" online once we met, to making an interesting clay sculpture of the devil, calling it "Mitcz" and giving it to me as an offering of some sort - I can’t help but be rather flattered and impressed.

I just find it amusing that while some know nothing of my devil obsession, or may have only seen me dressed as the devil on Halloween - the devil role still follows me. I don’t have a problem with it, of course, I just find it amusing. Perhaps one day I’ll have bolts implanted into my head so I can wear horns as a permanent fashion statement. But, not until I’m quite well-off in life, in case that doesn’t go over too well w/employers.

Last night, I reprised my devil role for some photos Michelle was taking on the roof of her building. The girl she was taking photos with was taped to a wall inside a sort-of alcove on the roof, wearing nothing but the tape (and later a dental jaw-lock device). Goddamn it was freezing last night, and the wind didn’t help much. That girl was frozen solid when we were done. Luckily, I got to keep my clothes on.

Anyway, here are some photos…
