The name of the game is Petals Around the Roses

I found this last night, after a blogger said he was tearing his hair out for 15 mins. trying to figure it out. Then he got it. I thought "hmm.. a fun, 15-20 minute challenge" and I thought I’d try. I got it on the second try. I read some stories after that, about how the guy who put this game online had a teacher who taught it to him and it took him a year. I thought "jesus. a year??". He claims that the smarter you are, the longer it’ll take you. That’s horseshit ego padding, right there. It’s got nothing to do w/intelligence. Only in how you perceive things. You logical, number-crunching types will take hours, days, even weeks to get it right. Us visual types get it almost immediately.

Every programmer in this office right now is cursing allowed about petals and roses. The few designers I sent it to are laughing their asses off.
BTW, Bill Gates took 4+ hours trying to get it right, back in 1977.

How about you?

THE NAME OF THE GAME IS PETALS AROUND THE ROSE

Here’s all I can tell you..

1. The number will always be even. And, will always be between 0 and 20.
2. As soon as you "figure it out" you’ll never get it wrong again. It’s not "ohhh.. I ALMOST had that one". It’s either you get it - or you don’t. There’s no grey area.
3. The name of the game is PETALS AROUND THE ROSE.
