the move
So, I’m finally done getting all my shit into this new apartment. Word to the wise - Starving Students Movers are neither starving, nor students, and not very good movers.
We didn’t even have them move everything, cause they were moving until midnight and.. well, fuck that shit. So, we got the rest of the littler things today. Fuck that shit, too.
I went to Ikea last weekend to "just look" for a Queen size bedframe. Well, they were having a sale on the one I wanted, and the sale was ending that day. It was raining and I was in no mood to move anything, but a Queen size bed for $150 is a deal in my book.
But then..
As I was moving this shit (remember, in the rain, and by myself) from Ikea to my car, I remember thinking "jesus this is a LOT of shit for a bed… and quite large/heavy for a Queen". Well, the mattress pad (that I don’t remember buying, but it’s about a $200 pad by itself in Queen size) was a KING! I thought "ohh fuck. now I’ve gotta bring it back and get the right size". But wait.. all the other boxes say KING as well. Holy shit. They gave me a king size bed, plus what was (at KING size) a $300 mattress pad for $150. Fuck it, get it in the car.
That sucked, big time.
But last night, after we were all moved in (at least, done for the day and the movers left) I put the fucking behemoth together. It’s gi-goddamn-gantic. Especially in this room. And, those "extra boxes" I wondered about, and why did they come w/my bed? Turned out to be a 6-drawer chest of drawers. Fuckin’ sweeeeet. Saved me some cash cause I was gonna buy one anyway. Not sure how the Ikea people who take your work order into the warehouse to put your order together not only mistook "Queen" for "King", but also tossed in the mattress pad and badass chest of drawers - but I’m not about to complain.
Just need to find a king-size mattress, plus sheet set, etc etc. I priced some shit out on BB&B (Bed Bath & Beyond)’s website and, minus the mattress, I can get a pretty nice little setup for $200. I dig jersey sheets, fuck all that thread count stuff.
Anyway, I’ve posted some pics of the room completly disheveled (I’ve barely just begun to unpack) but you can see that with my Ikea desk that I bought before moving into my last apartment, plus this new bed and chest of drawers - my room is now Casa De Ikea.
Still.. I think it’s fuckin’ NICE looking. And, roomy, surprisingly. I think I’m going to like it here.
